About Us

On West 49th Street in Midtown Manhattan, the Ambassador Theatre has been drawing audiences into the spell of live performance since 1921. Built by the Shubert Organization, this landmarked Broadway house carries more than a century of opening nights, standing ovations, and curtain calls in its bones. The gilded details, the plush seating, the low hum of anticipation before the lights go down, this is what Broadway was always meant to feel like.

For years the Ambassador has served as the permanent home of Chicago, the longest-running American musical in Broadway history. That show alone tells you everything about this theater: it attracts productions that are razor-sharp, relentlessly entertaining, and built to last. Reviewers consistently call the sightlines excellent and the atmosphere quintessentially New York, the kind of room where the city's energy and the performer's craft meet at exactly the right voltage.

The staff here earns its own praise. Guests describe the team as genuinely welcoming, attentive without being intrusive, and knowledgeable about the house. With a 4.5-star rating across nearly 5,000 reviews, the Ambassador isn't coasting on history. It earns its reputation eight times a week.

What We Offer

The Ambassador Theatre offers full Broadway productions in a beautifully preserved 1,125-seat house managed by the Shubert Organization. Current and upcoming productions are bookable directly through the Shubert box office and authorized ticketing partners, with options for orchestra, mezzanine, and balcony seating to fit every budget and preference.

Group sales are available for parties of ten or more, making the Ambassador a standout choice for corporate outings, school trips, birthday celebrations, and milestone events. The box office team can walk you through accessible seating arrangements, partial-view discounts, and premium seat upgrades. Same-day rush tickets are sometimes available for select performances, a genuine gift for spontaneous theatergoers in the city.

The theater sits steps from the 49th Street subway station on the N/W/R lines and is surrounded by the dining and hotel options of Midtown Manhattan, making it easy to build a full evening around the show. Coat check, concessions, and a merchandise stand round out the in-house experience.

"“Chicago” on Broadway in New York City is a razor-sharp, high-gloss spectacle that proves why it’s the must-see NYC musical this season. "“Chicago” at the Ambassador Theatre is a must in New York City! Such a beautiful theater where you truly feel the magic of Broadway. The staff members are very welcoming, friendly, and attentive. We arrived just as doors were opening and were quickly greeted and directed to our seats. There are several concession spots and vendors walk throughout the theater offering various items. I greatly enjoyed my experience at the Ambassador Theater and can’t wait to visit again!"

"A true NYC Broadway standard, especially as the longtime home of Chicago. Classic Broadway feel and the show itself was fantastic. Sightlines were good and the atmosphere felt quintessential New York theater. One thing to know before you go: the seats are VERY narrow. Think middle seat on a budget airline. If you’re broad-shouldered, tall, or just like a little personal space, it can feel pretty cramped. But overall, absolutely worth it for the experience."

"Went to see Chicago. The theater staff was so awesome. They were so very pleasant. The ladies room, located upstairs, didn't have very many stalls. The concession stuff is so overpriced. It is price gouging at it's finest. $10 for a cup of soda $7 for the bottle of water $7 for the small can of Pringles I get they want to make money but sheesh."
